Synopsis of Alternative Academy in charge of discussing curriculum

Main Ideas:
1. What type of student we will target in this academy?
*much discussion ensued, seems we are hoping to target as many ninth graders as possible to intervene ASAP
*early intervention seems to hopefully circumvent the need for credit recovery as upper classmen
*we would target students with "unsucessful middle school experiences"
*we would target students who would benefit from a rich mentoring experience

2. How would curriculum be structured?
*discussion around "project-based" curriculum in order to meet state requirements
*some discussion surrounded the concept of incorporating State of Michigan certification programs

3. What is funding like?
  • some discussion on current methods of funding in already in place
  • can we incorporate community/private business funding and more co-op style experiences?
